Are you between a rock and a hard place? Keep holding on because God is working all things for good…

I love the Lord, because he has heard
my voice and my pleas for mercy.
Because he inclined his ear to me,
therefore I will call on him as long as I live.
The snares of death encompassed me;
the pangs of Sheol laid hold on me;
I suffered distress and anguish.
Then I called on the name of the Lord:
“O Lord, I pray, deliver my soul!”
Gracious is the Lord, and righteous;
our God is merciful.
Psalm 116:1-5

We would love the Lord even if He didn’t hear us, wouldn’t we? How could we help ourselves when His is the greatest love we have ever known?

But He always does hear us. Nothing escapes Him.

For He is love and He is good and He loved us first while we were yet sinners.

And He will NEVER stop loving us. He will NEVER leave us.

His mercy hears our moans and we know that He hears our every prayer, our stifled late night sobs and our laughter, too, when we feel lighter than air and all in our world seems right.

We know how valued we feel when we perceive that the person to whom we are speaking is really listening to us. Their eyes are locked on ours and they make thoughtful comments about our words that give us a peace, knowing that we are heard and understood.

We are of greater worth than this to God and He is always listening to our hearts. He knows everything that is going on and how we feel. And He will work it all out.

And especially when we find ourselves between the rock and hard place we can comfort our hearts trusting that we stand on the rock that never changes, whose plans for us are for good and full of hope.

Even when things look awful. Are awful.

No matter what we go through we will be able to hold on as long as we hold on to Christ, and Him crucified suffering our pain and anguish. Man of sorrows familiar with our distress and anguish.

And He will bring us through to the other side.

Carrying us when we are too weak to go on. To the other side where the sun shines bright and our hearts grow warm and soft again.

And our tears in the mourning, those countless tears that He keeps as precious in His bottles, will shower us with joy in our dancing.

His love will make our hearts brand new and stronger in all the places broken.

Then He’ll twirl us round the grand ballroom called life and whisper in our ear pressed close to His lips.

You are my delight.

So let us delight in His arms in this moment of now even though our world may swirl.

Anticipating the celebration He has planned for later…

And my apologies for being absent these last few days from blogging, but with the pending house sale and waiting for contracts to sign, cleaning, sorting and packing boxes and tending to beloved family members staying with us this summer these blessedly long hours of my favorite season seem fleetingly short. Prayers appreciated!! Thank you for grace…

  1. I needed to hear this today. I loved every word. He does care, sometimes this gets misconstrued by the circumstances in my life. Thanks for the encouragement.

    • Never give up, Marlece. satan wants us to think its the end of the world and God doesn’t love us anymore or care about what happens to us but it is just a stupid lie. Glad my words encouraged you.You can find more reflections like this in my book, Heart Cry.

  2. Beautifully stated, Sheila. And I’ll be in prayer that your house sells! What an exciting, albeit busy and stressful time! We are planning to get our house ready for sale this year as well. It’s just too much house and yard for us “almost empty-nesters” to keep up with anymore! BTW, I featured your post from last week at Wedded Wed this week because you got the top clicks of a whopping “11” on your heartfelt plea to mother’s last week. You are touching on a great need, Sheila! I pray God blesses your continued efforts in this way.

    • Thank you, Beth, for sharing an important story. I personally know of at least one woman who stands by her very abusive and violent man and it breaks my heart that she cannot or will not accept the truth of her situation. And my house has SOLD!! I signed the contract last Tuesday and should close on or about Aug. 8. Can’t hardly believe my home of 22 years is passing on to a new owner. Yes, I have been incredibly busy and please pray for grace for me…I am struggling with exhaustion more than I care to admit.VERY stressful with so much to do. My love and prayers to you, friend. PS While I haven’t announced it formally, I have backed way off from writing this summer, too. Enjoy your sabbatical.

  3. Dear Sheila
    Yes, the knowledge that our Pappa hears and knows everything, has brought me so much freedom!!! We do not have to pretend before Him and we can be just ourselves before Him.
    Much love XX

  4. These hours of my favorite season seem fleetingly short too!!! Thank you so much for your encouraging words and peaceful message… in the midst of a busy season!! 🙂
