A precious little boy is on the way and we are counting the days.
And he will be a first for our family.
My mother’s first great-grandchild, my sister’s first grand baby, and her first-born daughter and son-in-law’s first little linebacker.
Far away on the west coast my niece’s blog keeps us up to date on her pregnancy with baby bump photos each week.
December can’t come quickly enough! What a Christmas present this year for all of us.
And I thought of Mary, a young teenage girl engaged and pregnant.
With the Son of God.
What was it like for her and Joseph to wait?
With so many questions unanswered and fears and doubts and wonderment and blessing all swaddled tight within their souls.
Waiting nine months for a baby boy that would not only change the course of their lives, but of our lives as well.
With her heart of love for God humbly surrendered, Mary waited while Love grew in her womb.
And Mary said … may it be done to me according to your word.
And all the world held it’s breath.
Until Love’s first cry was heard that silent night in a stable dark and damp. And one star shining brighter than all the rest heralding the good news of great joy.
For today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Love’s greatest gift.
Giving all so that we might get all.
Saving us and healing us and setting us free from our sins.
Love that would be pierced in the most terrible way to provide a tremendous treasure unlike anything the world has ever known.
And I wonder if Mary’s heart pounded as she pondered all these things.
And during these 31 days we are pondering Love that came and lived among us on earth and then died for us.
Waiting each dawn to greet the new day full of His mercies so tender, with gratitude for all His blessings.
Even the blessings that come disguised as pain. The ones that hurt us as He uses them to help heal us.
And sometimes Love waits for me, while I catch on to what He is doing in my heart.
And Love waits for you, too.
Waits with arms stretched wide to hold you close, never to let you go.
Love that would go the distance all the way to the cross all over again if it was only just for your sake.
You and me, we are that precious to Him.
Yet it can take a lifetime to wrap our hearts around this glorious truth.
And Him waiting for us to unwrap the Gift.
Waiting for us to stop running away all breathless and exhale into His arms.
Then surrendered, letting Him take our breath away.
For a lifetime.
And as we let go of what we think we must hold onto in order to survive, He breathes new life into us and our hearts start pumping for maybe the first real time with Love that never leaves.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
2 Corinthians 5:17
Beyond our feeble understanding, yet always within reach.
So reach out right now your withered heart that longs to be healed, and I will too.
We don’t have to wait for Love another minute…
