Hear my cry, O God;
Give heed to my prayer.
From the end of the earth I call to You when my heart is faint;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For You have been a refuge for me,
A tower of strength against the enemy.
Let me dwell in Your tent forever;
Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings. Selah.
Oh the countless times over the years that we have cried to the Father when our heart was faint. And each time He heard us. And even when we cried over something foolish we had done, He never shut us out but rather pulled us in closer to His heart.
Always wooing with that strong, gentle love of His. Love that never gives up on us even when we went down another dusty road to disaster.
Continually leading us on higher and higher because His plans for us are full of hope and a future bright with promise of good things yet to be. So He wiped our tears away each and every time. And taught us lessons that often needed repeating.
With patience and understanding of our dusty frailties, He protected us while in the wilderness, giving us refuge under His wings. And reminding us to stay there, close to Him. Telling us not to look backwards, but keep going ever on, following Him.
And so we kept trying, but fell down more times than we care to admit. And when we were at our dirtiest, He washed us clean with the water of His word and the blood of His lamb and kept working on our heart, so very hard from so much pain in the past. Never once letting us go, even though we pushed Him away sometimes.
His love is everlasting.
His love never fails.
His love finally broke through the walls behind which was our great woundedness and sinfulness.
And line upon line and precept upon precept, He repairs our walls, teaching us appropriate boundaries. And He rebuilt our foundation on solid rock so that no matter how fierce the winds might blow, our hearts would stand firm forever…
