Resolve to live in light…{New Year’s BREAKOUT series, Part 2}

BREAKOUT 2013Yesterday I wrote that our word for 2013 at Longings End is BREAKOUT.

I shared how I asked the Lord that this will be the year we BREAKOUT of everything that holds us back: the past, old hurts, doubts, fear and negativity; and that our writing here at Longings End {and even our business writing}  — which points to Him — will BREAKOUT into the world, helping others BREAKOUT of the chains that bind by touching hearts with healing and hope through His perfect love.

Part 1 in this BREAKOUT series focused on resolving to live in love; Part 2 has us resolving to live in light.

But in order to BREAKOUT of the old in this New Year, we must first break in or break back into all that is holy, all that is Jesus.

Live as children of light  (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness…
Ephesians 5:9-11

MA and ME Copyright 2013 Sheila KimballWhen I was a little girl, in the old days, I remember waiting all year for summer fruit.  And my Grandmother Esther would often bring home a small brown paper sack with fresh cherries or plums, and my eager little self could hardly wait to consume the treat!

Those cherries, plums and other seasonal fruits were surely worth the wait. By summer, they were succulent with juicy sweet goodness. And while the waiting may have seemed endless, what a delight when the fruit was finally ready.

And don’t we sometimes make God wait on us? Wait while we dilly dally in darkness, either dipping a toe or diving in head first.

And wait He does, for He is patient, loving and kind.

He even lets us plant all kinds of awful seeds along our path until we are ready to come to Him and ask for good seed to be planted in our hearts so that we might begin producing good fruit.

Fruit of the Light.

In forbearance the Father longs for us to produce good fruit. Fruit ripened in the light of His Son. Spiritual fruit ready for picking. Fruit that will bless many others, just like that long awaited bowlful of cherries blessed me as a kid.

God has waited a long time for me to become more fully ripe with His goodness and has given me countless second chances. I want 2013 to be the year of a bumper crop of all kinds of good fruit.

Fruit that makes Him smile.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23

You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.
1 Thessalonians 5

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16

LIGHT Copyright 2013 Sheila KimballLiving the truth in love and light, we express the righteousness of Christ.

The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.
Proverbs 4:18

Some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time.
Daniel 11:35

I am sick of stumbling and want to keep doing better, not to earn His love or favor, but just to bless Him.

So I need to stay on my toes, alert and ready.

And as we remain alert we can better perceive when our enemy is baiting us so we might avoid falling into the slimy pit of sin once again.

Then instead of our lights being dimmed or extinguished, we can be that lamp set on a hill. A bright light for all, showing the way to walk.

And while He loves us like crazy all the time no. matter. what! how He delights in us when we walk steadfastly in light, having nothing to do any longer with darkness.

Like everything else, it begins with a choice.

Choosing to follow hard after Him instead of taking the easy way out and doing whatever we feel like at the moment.

Like walking in love, walking in light begins at the beginning with quiet, alone, unrushed time in prayer with the God who is outside of time and everywhere past, present and future all at once.

And by wisely spending set aside time reading God’s word regularly. So I keep tucking His word inside my heart where it can pump life to all the members of the body and mine, too.

Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.
Daniel 12:3

And like the stars overhead in a black velvet sky, my tiny point of light, and yours, will be as diamonds in His hand strewn far and wide across eternity.
